November 5, 2024 Election Results
We want to say a thank you to the 46% of Cimarron Hills voters who support a 1% sales tax as a source of revenue to fund their fire department. While the initiative didn’t pass on November 5th, your support is a WIN and as we move forward into 2025, we need your help to educate neighbors who may not recognize or understand the benefits of a sales tax as a diversified source of funding aside from property tax. If you did vote no, we want to hear from you as it’s important we understand your point of view and answer any questions you may have.
Some of you have already asked about the impact. First and foremost, no one is in fear of losing their job. However, 2025 is going to be a year of tightening the budget; we are prioritizing “within the critical needs”, pushing some apparatus and equipment replacements out further (hoping for the best) and regretfully accepting that, for now, response times will continue to increase in the wake of dependence on mutual aid for an increasing back-to back and overlapping call load. And while it runs contrary to our own slogan, our community interaction and events may see some impacts as cuts must also be made to the overtime budget.
The reality is additional property tax revenue cuts are on the horizon for 2026 and 2027, and we need to be prepared. We are dedicated to serving our citizens with an effective fire force and the utmost quality of care, and we know the Cimarron Hills community will pull together to ensure their fire department is fully-funded, appropriately staffed with the highest trained and professional responders, geared up with effectual life-saving apparatus and equipment, and engaged as the Community Centered Family Department you have come to know and deserve.
