CHFD responds to a number of service calls each year. These calls range from animal rescue to changing batteries in smoke detectors to flooding situations. Oftentimes CHFD is able to resolve the problem; otherwise our focus is to stop it from progressing to a worse situation and/or refer the community member to the proper resources who can fix the original problem.

Fire, when controlled properly, can be a very useful tool for providing heating, cooking, or other uses. However, when fire gets out of control it becomes extremely dangerous and threatening to society. CHFD responds to a variety of fire related incidents. There are many factors involved with putting out any given fire such as the type of fire, the extent of the fire, and what is actually on fire.

CHFD responds to various reports of hazardous conditions, from chemical spills to carbon monoxide alarms to odor investigations. All CHFD personnel are trained to the Hazardous Materials Operations level, which means we can recognize and contain most materials that are encountered. Occasionally, CHFD responds to specialty incidents that are unique and infrequent. These include mass casualty incidents, technical rescue, aircraft emergencies, industrial accidents, law enforcement standby, etc. While CHFD is trained in the basics of these type of incidents, we often request mutual aid from resources that specialize in these responses.

CHFD is happy to provide a wide variety of safety and public education classes each year.
